Two
years ago, I was sitting at a field in Fort Hood, Texas patiently
waiting for someone who I deeply cared for to step foot onto United
States soil again. As I was sitting on the bleachers impatiently
waiting, I had every single emotion running through my body. I felt
happiness and relief knowing that the one I waited for had made it home
safely and in one piece. I felt sadness knowing that as I
waited for this person to fly in, there were some people who sat at
home knowing that their loved one should have been returning with the
rest of these men. Every feeling that you endure while waiting is
something that cannot be described, but only felt by personal
experience. Knowing that a person who was away at war for almost an
entire year had made it home safely is such a remarkable feeling. Let
today, and every other day of the year, remind you of the sacrifices
these men and women make while they are overseas. Let us remember those
who have returned home in one piece, those who did not return home whole
and those who did not return home at all.
Don't wait until Veteran's Day to thank a veteran, thank one every single chance you get.
